Do you have a “culinary bucket list?”  I kind of do. I was all set to post that autumn is in the air.  Then yesterday happened.  The hottest day of summer so far.  After a week or so of refreshingly cool temps and a decidedly moderate summer overall.  Today was equally muggy and hot, but at least there has been a breeze.  We will return to reasonable weather by Friday. Memories of tomatoes past

I can still remember coming home from grade school each September and smelling tomatoes stewing from the sidewalk.  Owing to her Italian heritage, my mother would freeze jars of stewed tomatoes every year.  As a kid, I never really liked the rather overwhelming smell of cooked tomatoes as it washed over me once I opened the door, but as an adult I’ve come to rather like it.
