Busy Times

Various edibles | My Edible Journey

We’ve eaten well. Guacamole, crepes with honey goat cheese & strawberry sauce, Pinterest inspired hashbrowns in the waffle iron and bread experiments.

I haven’t forgotten you. Honest. We’ve been down with the sick. It’s January, after all. But in spite of the symphony of sniffles, coughs and sleepless yawns, we’ve been eating alright. I am tired of take out and junk food and scrambling at the last minute to figure out what to eat, so I have been putting in a real effort to have proper food available for us. My efforts have not been perfect, but we have managed to cut down on eating out and ordering in.

Boozy Cherries

A Duo Of Boozy Cherries | My Edible JourneyIt’s been an up and down week.  Our little girl needed dental work under general anaesthetic, which went incredibly smoothly, but was anxiety inducing in the time leading up to the appointment.  The weather has gone from gorgeous to understandably seasonal (read – muggy & hot), but it produced a gorgeous storm.  And just as I was settling into strawberries, cherries appeared!  I don’t think I’ve ever bought them this early.  They are firmly a July harvest, in my mind. Lemon Iced Tea

Lemon Iced Tea | My Edible JourneyWe have at last put the bone chilling cold behind us and have tasted summer.  That may sound dramatic, but it really was the winter that would.not.end in Southern Ontario (and many other areas, going by the teeth chattering heard around Twitter).  Hot chocolate is a distant memory now.  Bring on the frosty drinks and cool libations. Brown Butter Biscotti and a Festive Drink

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Biscotti with Candy Cane Coffee |My Edible Journey

It’s gotten cold.  Winter began creeping in a week or so ago.  And with it, that dull light that is the bane of food bloggers.  Hence the photo quality.  Would it be weird to ask for pieces of white and black foam board for Christmas?

Then it snowed.  It was so unexpected that the kids didn’t even have boots.  We haven’t gotten snow like this in November in….  Well, I don’t remember.  Not in the past few years, anyway.  I’d already given up pining for it when it arrived.  And it brought with it a very festive spark. Old Fashioned Limeade

Old Fashioned Limeade ~My Edible JourneyFeelin’ hot hot hot

Wow, has the heat arrived.  And it’s unwelcome cousin, humidity.  We had quite a storm the other night, complete with copious amounts of rain, so our gardens are happy.  I actually harvested a few radishes already.  That made my daughter happy.  And we turned on the air conditioning last night.  That made us all happy. Candied Lemon Zest

Meyer Lemon Zest and Cocktail

Spring?

Really? If the calendar didn’t say so, I wouldn’t believe it. There’s a layer of snow out there that beats all that we got last winter (when, by the way, it was 20C or warmer at this point). It’s grey. My son has a cold. Everything screams “hunker down!” Continue reading
