*blink blink* Well, everything is where I left it. That’s good. It’s been a (long) while. There’s been a lot going on, including having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. And maybe I’ll share at some point all the stuff behind my unintended hiatus. Continue reading

Merry Christmas
It’s Christmas Eve. I have no festive foodie post. I’ve been busy with family and friends, celebrating and preparing. There has been food. Plenty of it. From marinated olives to assorted cookies to hot cocoa and hot toddies. Right now, phase one of the stuffing is cooking before I bake up double chocolate muffins (a Christmas morning must).
I hope that you and yours are having a wonderful time, whatever you celebrate, however you observe the last of December. I’m not promising a post between now and the new year, but I’ll see what I can do.
In the meantime, blessings for a wonderful end to 2014 and an even more amazing 2015!

Vanilla Bean Shortbread
Mint Cream Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
I’ll admit it. I’m starting to get my jingle on. Just a little bit. I’ve been listening to the music, and enjoying the sight of the earliest of Christmas lights against the backdrop of snow that we got walloped with last week. Continue reading
Gingersnap Biscotti
Getting that feeling
It’s mid-November (what? how?!) and the temps have definitely dropped. In fact, it’s been ever so lightly snowing all morning. And with the shift in weather, my thoughts begin to turn to pre-pre-holiday flavours. I’m not in full on festive mode yet, but I am craving warm spices and cozy tastes. Ginger is the taste of November (as you can also see here in my ginger oatmeal cookie). Continue reading
Cranberry Clementine Parfaits
Part of what lessens the blow of Christmas being a mere week away is knowing that it’s also the season for wonderful treats, like fresh cranberries and clementines. Did anyone else get a clementine in their stocking on Christmas morning? We did. Along with a single walnut. Which never got eaten. I suspect that we may each have gotten the same nut every year, to be honest. Continue reading

Let it Begin
The Christmas season has begun in earnest for us. Up until this past Sunday (the first Sunday of Advent), I’ve felt a bit like I’ve been snitching cookies from the platter, sneaking in bits of Christmas where I can. I always start getting into the spirit “early.” By mid November, I’m normally chomping at the bit, listening to music, putting out the odd decoration… Continue reading
Brown Butter Biscotti and a Festive Drink
It’s gotten cold. Winter began creeping in a week or so ago. And with it, that dull light that is the bane of food bloggers. Hence the photo quality. Would it be weird to ask for pieces of white and black foam board for Christmas?
Then it snowed. It was so unexpected that the kids didn’t even have boots. We haven’t gotten snow like this in November in…. Well, I don’t remember. Not in the past few years, anyway. I’d already given up pining for it when it arrived. And it brought with it a very festive spark. Continue reading
Like a TV Clip Show
Sorry, folks. I’m down for the count this week with an ear infection/perforated eardrum. So, in the spirit of television clip shows, I’ve compiled a few posts from the past year to hold us all over until I’m (hopefully) better next week. And yes, lesson learned. Keep a post or two in reserve for times such as this… Continue reading
Pictures and peace
There is no recipe today. Instead I’m taking time to breathe, and just hang out with you.
This year I chose to participate in a December photo a day challenge. Each day there is a different theme to help capture the season. I’ve never done anything like this before, and I must say, it’s helped me focus. This month has not sped by as quickly as the rest of the months this year seemed to. Taking even a moment each day to deliberately contemplate a specific theme of the season and capture it somehow has helped me to slow down, to not rush too far ahead. To breathe. Continue reading
