Busy Times

Various edibles | My Edible Journey

We’ve eaten well. Guacamole, crepes with honey goat cheese & strawberry sauce, Pinterest inspired hashbrowns in the waffle iron and bread experiments.

I haven’t forgotten you. Honest. We’ve been down with the sick. It’s January, after all. But in spite of the symphony of sniffles, coughs and sleepless yawns, we’ve been eating alright. I am tired of take out and junk food and scrambling at the last minute to figure out what to eat, so I have been putting in a real effort to have proper food available for us. My efforts have not been perfect, but we have managed to cut down on eating out and ordering in.

Gluten Free Jalapeno Cheese Cornbread Muffins

Feeling Inspired

The sun shone yesterday and it was “warm” enough to go out in a light jacket.  Sure, it was only about 10C, but it was welcome.  There was warmth in the sun as it poured over my face!  We had a similar day this past weekend, and I took advantage of it to grill some steaks, which I  haven’t done since December.

The weather further inspired me to crave cornbread.  Well, the weather and a random comment, probably on Twitter.  Some days the product of my kitchen is also the product of my impulsiveness.  It’s good that I don’t have copious amounts of good chocolate and cream on hand very often. English Muffin Bread | My Edible Journey

Sometimes things have to be simple

It’s been one of those weeks.  We’re all sick, probably with the flu.  We’ve each gone through varying degrees of coughing, sniffling, fever, chills and lethargy since the week began.  Sometimes, when I get sick, I get antsy.  I have to move and do, but with precious little energy for either (or for taking a wide variety of photos, obviously).  So I was thankful to be able to channel what restlessness I had into something simple and delicious that has been easy on sick tummies all week. 2013 – The Food That Was

The year that was - My Edible Journey

Well, that’s it then

My first January through December of blogging My Edible Journey.  There were some definite hits (wow, do you all love ham soup!)  And a few misses (so maybe I’m the only one who thinks that cabbage and kale pair well with honey and Feta).  And in between there have been seasons of incredible local bounty, delightful new tastes and a few surprises, good and… not as good.  There have been photos that I have quite loved, only to be panned by foodie link sites, and at least one I really didn’t like, but put up anyway and then had those same sites love them.  Go figure. Like a TV Clip Show

Sorry, folks. I’m down for the count this week with an ear infection/perforated eardrum.  So, in the spirit of television clip shows, I’ve compiled a few posts from the past year to hold us all over until I’m (hopefully) better next week.  And yes, lesson learned.  Keep a post or two in reserve for times such as this… Continue reading

Double Chocolate Muffins

I never used to like baking.  I always preferred to be able to tweak and play right up to the very end of a dish.  I would make a batch of cookies here or there, or maybe a loaf of banana bread, but I just didn’t bake much when I was first married.  Much to my husband’s chagrin.

I don’t know what changed.  Or exactly when.  But somewhere along the way I began to enjoy baking.  Cookies, bread, loaves, muffins…
