Yes, it’s summer.  Yes, it’s traditionally hot.  And it has been.  But we’ve returned to reasonable temps, with open windows, lovely breezes and comfortable nights.  It’s not typical, which may explain my equally not typical in summer urge to fire up the oven and bake.  But I must be out of practice.

Feeling Inspired

The sun shone yesterday and it was “warm” enough to go out in a light jacket.  Sure, it was only about 10C, but it was welcome.  There was warmth in the sun as it poured over my face!  We had a similar day this past weekend, and I took advantage of it to grill some steaks, which I  haven’t done since December.

The weather further inspired me to crave cornbread.  Well, the weather and a random comment, probably on Twitter.  Some days the product of my kitchen is also the product of my impulsiveness.  It’s good that I don’t have copious amounts of good chocolate and cream on hand very often. Stone Fruits

The edible seasons are flying by.  While there are some late bearing strawberries to be had, the season is pretty well over.  Berries will be finished soon.  CSA baskets are now brimming with zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant and peppers.  But there are still stone fruits.  Delicious, juicy, inspiring stone fruits.  And to celebrate, I’m sharing two recipes plus a recipe idea that still needs tweaking.
