I did it.
I said that I’d start using recipes from the modestly large collection of cookbooks that I have, and I’ve done it. I’m quite chuffed, actually. And it was tasty, too!

I love having interesting spices/blends in my cupboard. Za’atar is one that I use often on grilled chicken, and pita chips. I always have seasoning blends on hand for rubbing on meats for barbecuing or sprinkling on potatoes to give them some oomph. Adding a little kick to some basic salt seemed like a natural addition to my pantry. Popcorn will never be the same. Continue reading
It’s that time again. The internet is going nuts over ramps. Apparently they’re delicious and In some areas they are rather controversial. I’ve never had one, nor do I recall having seen any. I suppose if I did, I’d dig one up out of curiosity. But honestly, I’m equally happy with the earliest bounty that my garden provides… Continue reading
I’m experimenting with posting directly from my iPod. If this works, you can expect more posts that come from flashes of inspiration and life in general. I’m kind of excited. Sometimes I don’t have a recipe, or beautifully edited photos. And sometimes I just don’t have it in me to do all that a “proper” blog post requires. These savoury turkey turnovers are my first attempt at this new way. Enjoy!

While Thanksgiving is long past here in Canada already, it is just around the corner in the U.S. With my American readers in mind, and giving a nod to the creeping chill that is wrapping itself around folks in many areas, I’ve put together a compilation of a few recipes featuring seasonal foods that are abundant right now. Enjoy!
Summer is in full swing and we’re enjoying it. Join me this week for a look back at some of the wonderful recipes that have come from the bounty of this part of the season. Continue reading
The weather has been beautiful. Warm days, very few of them truly hot, and cool nights, perfect for sleeping with the window open. This is how I like my summer (partly because I hate how much it costs to use the air conditioning). I know, I know, it’s not technically summer yet. I’m not trying to rush things, honest (never mind that the year is almost half over already).
This weather has been perfect for our spinach. The leaves have remained tender and vibrant, with no signs of bolting. My daughter and I planted it several weeks ago. It was the first thing to go into the ground, and one of the first edibles from our garden this year. Continue reading
Well, “sprung” may be a bit of a strong word. Spring has shown up. Kind of. The robins came back, if only because they’re programmed to. We still had snow on the ground last week. But at the moment the small amounts of warmth and sunshine that we’ve been graced with have produced soft buds on the raspberry canes, tiny, grassy stalks of pungent chives poking out of the leaf litter and an abundance of bunnies, which last year ate our peas down to stumps before they ever had a chance. Hmmm…
Wow, has it been cold. We haven’t seen cold like this in years. We saw -30C (-22 in American measures) with the windchill yesterday. And that was the HIGH temperature! We had a reprieve on the weekend, hovering around the freezing mark, but the wind was still bitter. And this weekend promises to be milder, but very wet. It’s time for chili. Continue reading
My first January through December of blogging My Edible Journey. There were some definite hits (wow, do you all love ham soup!) And a few misses (so maybe I’m the only one who thinks that cabbage and kale pair well with honey and Feta). And in between there have been seasons of incredible local bounty, delightful new tastes and a few surprises, good and… not as good. There have been photos that I have quite loved, only to be panned by foodie link sites, and at least one I really didn’t like, but put up anyway and then had those same sites love them. Go figure.
